Welcome to this website about smart ideas that could be considered for Kraainem. A lot of “smart” projects and systems exist already, in many places around the world as well as in Kraainem and we don’t want to reinvent the wheel: there is no time and no need to do it either.
The current version of this website is for a large part written in English: translations to other languages will be proposed early 2018. Of course, comments and reactions from the inhabitants could be sent to us in any language.
On September 26th, 2017, the city council had decided to take part to the VVSG initiative “Smart Cities”.

The purposes of this website are:
- To inform you about initiatives and developments around this subject
- To allow you to post ideas [visit our FB page]
- To make a selection (*) of the most practical ideas that could be considered for Kraainem. They will come through different channels (this website, e-mail, the FB page,…). This is the most difficult part, that will allow us to put ideas into practice. We will need to gather views and get agreements from different stakeholders, including city and provincial authorities, the inhabitants,… In quite a few cases, funds will be available, but specific rules will then apply (**). We will also ask your opinion on some ideas to evaluate their feasability in the case of Kraainem.
(*) We expect to have a first selection of ideas by the end of December 2017
(**) There is a probability that we will have to cooperate with other cities and communes to maximize chances of success. That could be the case for some mobility projects at the scale of Vlaams-Brabant for example.
The best way to take further steps will be discussed with the city authorities and services – in the meantime, don’t hesitate to send us your ideas!
